Speaking with the Land
April 27, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Join ACA and Stetson University Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience for a fun, educational celebration of the lands surrounding Atlantic Center for the Arts. The ACA main campus encompasses 69 acres of wilderness which borders the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. This land remains an inspiration for artists and the community, and is known for its biodiversity and beauty. In the spirit of Doc Leeper, this event will celebrate these unique lands with hands-on creative family activities that share knowledge from experts in our region. Artists, scientists, and nature lovers will gather to offer experiences that allow a greater connection to the land and tell real-world success stories of hope for a better future.
ACA Visitor Center & Amphitheater (1414 Art Center Ave., NSB)
Johnny Dame, a local artist and phenologist will be sharing his artistically rendered maps of Florida and demonstrate various ways of celebrating a sense of place through art by welcoming the public to make drawings, paintings and poetry and listen to enchanting music, all inspired by the land.
Ceramicist Casey Ramey, will share her love of the land by offering participants the opportunity to use local materials to make a pinch pot. A sensory experience not to be missed!
A variety of interpretative campus walks of ACA will be offered by local experts including bee keeper Doug McGinnis and Southeast Volusia Audubon Society birders to view ACA’s newest residents – bald eagles! We’ll also have a scavenger-hunt for kids and adults alike.
