Altered Books as Art Journals – Pt. 2

In June we began working on Altered Books to use as art journals so will continue in this workshop.
New participants are welcome to begin a new Altered Book in this session also.
Come turn a book into a personal art journal with artist/art therapist Laura Bohn. We will transform old books and recycle them into personal art expressions that respond to our needs and goals. The goal is to address therapeutic concerns and positive emotions through the pages of your altered book/art journal. Altered books can provide a symbolically layered means of exploring your life, especially when art is made intentionally for growth and wellbeing.
Supply list:
Bring in an old hard cover book (about journal size) to transform into an altered book. A book you can fit in your hands and carry easily will work best. Avoid books with slick pages or books that are heavy.
Please bring acrylic matte gel medium, scraps of fabric, leather, papers, memorabilia, and other small treasures that might adorn your book covers. Bring words, letters, photocopies, and other images that may end up in your personal journal.
ACA will provide glue, acrylic paints, aprons, scissors, and brushes. Please bring your own materials if desire.

Laura K. Bohn is a professional artist, art educator and art therapist MAAT. She recently completed her Master’s degree in Art Therapy in December 2014. She has been an art educator for many years and is now an art therapist available for facilitating art and wellness workshops. She has exhibited at the Florida Museum for Women Artists, De Land Museum of Art, IGM gallery in Los Angeles and Wolfe Gallery in De Land, Florida. Some of the art festivals she has exhibited at includes IMAGES, Mount Dora, Gaspiralla, De Land, and Maitland. Laura has taught classes and workshops at De Land Museum of Art, Ormond Memorial Museum of Art, The Hub, Casa Montessori School and Children’s House Montessori School, and now shares her talent at Atlantic Center for the Arts leading workshops in expressive arts.
