A tactile art experience for the blind/low sighted community
Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) offers an accessible tour through its fine art gallery, Arts on Douglas. The gallery will be open on Saturday, March 14th for a tactile art experience with ACA Arts & Wellness ambassador, Laura Bohn. The event features a descriptive tour of the works of local artists Bryce Hammond, and René Guerin. Designed for those in the blind/low sighted community, this tour includes a hands-on workshop to create a personalized tactile artwork. The blind/low sighted community represents a significant number of the population in the United States. According to Prevent Blindness, the nation’s leading volunteer eye health and safety organization, “more than 1.1 million are legally blind and an additional 50,000 people lose their sight each year.” This event aims to open creative enjoyment of art by creating a safe, undistracted space for the participants. Kelly Harris, CEO at Conklin Center for the Blind, encourages activities that “offer independent freedom and enjoyment of life.” Students from Conklin Center will be participating in the event. Saturday, March 14, 2020 Free with RSVP. Limited to 10 participants. This workshop is made possible by support from Conklin Center for the Blind, the Florida Department of Blind Services Daytona Beach, and Daytona Beach Art League.
