Please join us Tuesday, June 7, when Atlantic Center for the Arts, in conjunction with the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce and City of New Smyrna Beach, is holding a ribbon-cutting and dedication of a mural at the Babe James Community Center from 4-6 PM. This mural was envisioned and created by Atlantic Center’s Community Artist Shy Morris, Westside community members and many children. This large-scale mural (16 x 66 feet) called “Unite,” is in the courtyard of the Alonzo Babe James Community Center, and was funded in part by a Community Development Block Grant, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the County of Volusia. The mural celebrates the African-American experience and local history. It is the culmination of a year-long project in which Shy taught the children basic artistic processes as well as African-American and local history.
Food is graciously being provided by WAWA. New store opening soon in New Smyrna Beach www.wawa.com
