Postcards from Canaveral

Join us September 26th at 7 PM for the premiere of Postcards from Canaveral at Atlantic Center for the Arts main campus in New Smyrna Beach.

This brand new 26-minute video documentary about Canaveral National Seashore is told in two parts. Part one tells the story of Young Sound Seekers, a community partnership designed to create opportunities for visually-impaired youth with our public lands. It compiles interviews with the people involved who each talk about what they will take away from the experience. Part two explores the seashore through its soundscape, both above and below the water’s surface. It gathers the sounds of Canaveral’s waves, wind, and wildlife to present a guided audio tour narrated by some of the Young Sound Seekers. The audience will leave with a better understanding of why the soundscape at Canaveral should be treasured and protected.

The premiere of this documentary will be celebrated through a screening hosted at Atlantic Center for the Arts that is open to the public. Friends who have supported Young Sound Seekers from its founding to today are encouraged to attend. Community members who have heard about the project and want to know more about the soundscape at Canaveral are equally welcome.

This film was funded by a grant from the National Park Service to Atlantic Center for the Arts, in collaboration with community partners Conklin Davis Center for the Visually Impaired and Stetson University. After the screening, the documentary will make its way to the Apollo Beach Visitor Center, where it will be available for regular viewing.
