“OneBeat is thrilled to be returning to ACA for our twelfth edition of the program. ACA continues to be an invaluable partner and home to the OneBeat residency, setting the standard for an inspiring, supportive and safe creative space. This year has marked the start of a new phase in the OneBeat program with the addition of a second in-person residency and tour, and we are so pleased to be returning to ACA for the second time this year. For the past decade, OneBeat has redefined music diplomacy, bringing musical collaboration into civic discourse. As we continue to inspire a global network of young leaders who are using musical collaboration to encourage meaningful cross-cultural dialogue, rejuvenate local economies, inspire youth, and help build more egalitarian and harmonious societies, we could not ask for a better collaborator than the Atlantic Center for The Arts and its wonderful staff.” – Kyla-Rose Smith, OneBeat Programs Director & Found Sound Nation Executive Director
We are excited to announce that OneBeat will be returning to Atlantic Center for the Arts in just a few weeks! Designed with the belief that the creation of music is an ideal vehicle for crossing cultural and political divides, OneBeat brings together 25 musicians selected from 19 different countries. An initiative of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and produced by Found Sound Nation, OneBeat is cultivating a groundbreaking international network of leading artistic, technological, and social innovators in music.
This diverse group of musicians will be in residency at Atlantic Center for the Arts for two weeks to exchange ideas, create original music, and develop meaningful friendships prior to touring venues and meeting with community partners in the Southeast. Their creative process exemplifies how people from dramatically different musical backgrounds, with diverse training, conceptions of music, and aesthetics, can negotiate differences and find an interplay of cultures that maintains the integrity of each tradition.
During their time in residence, OneBeat conducts several public performances and engagement workshops within the local Central Florida community. This includes a Volusia County Schools Teacher Training for music teachers throughout our district, outreach to local youth, a local nursing home, and a free public concert. These are enthusiastically received by audiences, and in fact draw some of the biggest crowds to our institution. Quite simply, our community is in awe of OneBeat’s creativity, the cultural diversity, and the musical results of these collaborative endeavors, and their return to ACA is always eagerly anticipated.
Because of your support ACA is able to bring world-class artists and groups like OneBeat to our community. Please join us at this free community event.
