Julie Patton, Master Artist Outreach

October 20, 2015, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Julie Patton, a Master Artist-in-Residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, will bring her insights and particular brand of poetry to the Daytona Beach Regional Library at City Island, 105 E. Magnolia Ave.

The poet, performer and visual artist will do a site-specific reading at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20.

“My recital, more like a ‘writing out loud,’ will involve improvising off found matters – books, sounds, words, thoughts, the weather, how I feel, what I see hear, feel, sense – at the library and anything I may have come in contact with in and around the grounds of the Atlantic Center for the Arts,” Patton explained.

After her reading, she will take questions and sign books.

Patton is the author of “Using Blue to Get Black,” “Notes for Some (Nominally Awake),” “A Garden per Verse (or What Else do You Expect from Dirt?),” “The Building by the Side of the Road” and “Teething on Type.” “B”, her collection of phenomenological explorations, will be published by Tender Buttons Press this year.

The New York City resident has received the Doan Brook Association 2012 Watershed Hero Award, New York City Arts-in-Education Roundtable Award for Sustained Achievement, a grant from the Acadia Arts Foundation, and fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.

She has taught at New York University; Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado; and Schule fur Dichtung in Vienna, Austria.

Reservations are not required. For more information call 386-257-6036, ext. 16166.
