In the new exhibition “All Flourishing is Mutual,” Duy Hoàng presents an explorative environment, where he invites viewers to consider our symbiotic relationships with matters in our surrounding, and actively placing ourselves within that spectrum in order to locate a sense of wonder, a quest for belonging, in search for the notion of ‘home’.
Hoàng’s early childhood transition between moving from Vietnam to the U.S. had an impact on how he perceived the sensitivity of the fluctuating world around him. This shift in physical environments and cultural change demanded his intensive observation to dissect and comprehend the foreign habitat, where he continually deconstructed and reconstructed a home of his own. “All Flourishing is Mutual” is a site-responsive process, an apparatus to compartmentalize and overlap the multi-dimensional characteristics of Spruce Creek areas, the place which became a distinct time marker in his research and practice. This exhibition is an opportunity for us to decelerate and offer some time to examine the place we are inherently connected to.
