About Arts for Health Florida
Arts for Health Florida is the culmination of many years of hard work and dedication. In 2012, the Arts Council of Hillsborough County began developing a program to support the growth of arts and health programming in Tampa Bay. One of its first steps was to hold a strategic planning meeting. The Arts Council invited representatives from several esteemed arts and health organizations including: The Coalition for Arts and Health Sarasota-Manatee, Creative Care, Moffitt Cancer Center, Shands Arts in Medicine, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tampa General Hospital and VSA Florida. What quickly became apparent was that there was a need for a statewide organization to harmonize and support the efforts of the state’s many arts and health professionals and organizations. In October of 2014, with the help and support of an esteemed group of professionals from around the state who contribute as our organization’s Board of Directors, Arts for Health Florida became an independent, non-profit, statewide organization that supports the growth of the arts and health field and the many individuals and organizations around the state that offer arts and health integration services.
Our mission is to promote the use of the arts to enhance health and well-being. To that end we strive to:Increase arts and health programming throughout Florida by advocating for professional development, program support, and research. Become a collaborative resource for individuals and organizations interested in arts and health integration programs or learning about the field of arts and health. Raise awareness of the benefits of the arts for health through relationship building, education & advocacy.
