ACA partners with Creative Purpose Productions to bring exceptional local talent to the summer camp of Alonzo “Babe” James Community Center in New Smyrna Beach.

With a focus on mental health, poetry can provide and boost an individual’s mood during periods of stress, trauma or grief. Each youth will have the opportunity to express their work and use their own lyrics in a performance, guided by award-winner poet, Justincredible. Adding a focus on physical healing, drum circles help boost the immune system and promote physical wellness. Drum therapy is an outlet for individuals to release inner trauma through physical movement and meditative rhythms. During these activities, co-facilitator Emmanuel will play meditative rhythms using his drum set and Hattie will walk the youth through what it means to move and release emotions. This final jam session on July 31st will incorporate spoken word, drumming and movement for a fun group performance.

Session I: Gratitude Rainbow. Curriculum will include explaining that rainbows are formed when light shines through water.
Session II: Creating a Spiderweb. Curriculum will cover a dialogue about the fibonacci sequence and how it’s evident in nature.
Session III: Tessellations. Curriculum will encompass the Latin translation of the word tessella which means a small square.
