The Spirit Enrichment Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts and humanities. Atlantic Center for the Arts honors Doug McGinnis for his dedication, volunteerism, and unwavering support. About the honoree: 

Doug McGinnis is a second-generation Floridian and lifelong Volusia County resident who became an active worker in the honey and citrus industries through his family-owned business, Tropical Honey, which was established in the 1940s. Doug also possesses a strong performing arts background. He participated in the Atlantic Center for the Arts’ artist residency program in 1982 with playwright Edward Albee and again in 1986 with actress and dancer June Havoc; he continues to advance the arts by serving on the ACA Board of Trustees since 2006. Doug is an active educator and historian at the Helen and David K. McGinnis Museum of Beekeeping, named in honor of his parents, at the University of Florida Honeybee Research and Extension Laboratory. In 2007, he established a thriving apiary on the ACA campus, where he shares his extensive knowledge of which native flowering plants that produce the sweetest and most complex tastes of honey– his bee walks and talks are famous at ACA and beyond! Doug continues to serve as a wonderful reminder that arts programming and the natural environment are related and need protecting.
