Exhibition Dates: August 19–September 30, 2023
Gallery Hours: Tuesday & Thursday, 10 AM-2PM
In REVELATION, visionary artist Frewuhn travels to the year 2030, where water has reclaimed much of the earth, leaving only the resonance of sound as the primary essence of existence. The artist invites visitors to an immersive sanctuary through a carefully curated collage of soundscapes, video installations, and evocative photography. Combining elements of micro compositions, movement, and poetic devotions from the other side of freedom, Frewuhn weaves an intricate tapestry of elements that blur the boundaries between art, the self and the natural environment.
Drawing upon her background as a sonic artist, Frewuhn creates a multisensory experience that invites audiences to explore the sustainability of their current and future existence. Her previous works serve as a trajectory for Revelation, culminating in an experimental film that invites audiences to immerse themselves in the profound beauty of our planet’s fragile ecosystems.
The exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the fragility and resilience of our planet, urging viewers to reconsider their relationship with themselves, the environment, and the collective. Revelation aims to awaken a sense of environmental consciousness and ignite a commitment to preserving sovereignty on a planet that is reclaiming itself. Frewuhn offers an invitation to engage with the beauty and complexity of the world we inhabit, calling for pause and reflection on where humanity is headed. This exhibition challenges our perceptions by offering a glimpse into a future where echoes of water and the transformative power of sound calls upon us to listen, and become active participants in shaping a future that honors the interconnectedness of all life forms.
REVELATION is the first in a series of exhibitions for LIGHT x MATTER. LIGHT x MATTER exhibition series serves as a catalyst for amplifying artists using tech based mediums, fostering equity and accessibility in tech, immersive, and civic art and design to nurture a vibrant arts community for underrepresented and under-resourced BIPOC artists worldwide. Through the mediums of video, photography, augmented reality, and varying contemporary technology-based art forms, participants in LIGHT x MATTER can explore and refine their concepts, while actively engaging with their communities.
