Arts on Douglas is pleased to announce the opening of its annual themed group exhibition Endless Summer. Paying homage to the 1960s cult classic film of the same name, this fun, lighthearted exhibition is a visual exploration of the summer season and all that it entails. This year’s exhibition features fresh work by Marc Barrett, Bobbi Baugh,Trent Berning, Donne Bitner, Victor Bokas, Eileen Corse, René Guerin, Allison Kline, Joe Krawczyk, BJ Lantz, Maureen Kiefer Nagler, Joseph Palmerio, Sara Pedigo, Christine Peloquin, Audrey Phillips, Beau Redmond, Per Hans Romnes, Jo Sinclair, Trish Thompson, Anna Tomczak, and Catherine Van Lancker.
The opening reception for Endless Summer runs from 4-7 PM on Saturday, August 5. To supplement the event, the gallery is showcasing an interactive summer themed photo booth and a signature summer cocktail. Live reggae and modern beach music will also be performed by the Funky Volcanoes, with Andrew Elliot on guitar and vocals and Tyler Rosenke on the drums. Shoes and shirts are required, but guests may show up in their favorite summer attire — from beach chic to tacky tourist, and save 10% on any Endless Summer purchases the night of the opening. This exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
Now in its fifth year, this display, curated by Gallery Director, Meghan Martin, features 21 artists, each of whom has creatively expressed their interpretations of summer ideals, memories, experiences and sensations through their art. Fresh work by veteran participants is showcased alongside a juried selection of work by 6 guest artists. Returning exhibitors include Beau Redmond, whose piece Cypress Gardens pays homage to the early Florida tourist attraction, styled in the manner of a 1950s postcard, and layered in typical Redmond fashion with newspaper clippings about the park. First-time participant, St. Augustine-based Sara Pedigo, includes oil paintings of everyday scenes that reveal the magical quality of summer light.
“From the highly textured acrylic paintings of Florida scenes by New Smyrna Beach’s own Trish Thompson to a surfaced egret platter by Port Orange ceramic artist Trent Berning, the high caliber of work in this year’s exhibition speaks for itself,” states Gallery Director, Meghan Martin. “Each artist has imaginatively captured the spirit of this season in their unique way. Even the most discerning viewers will be able to identify favorites with ease from this year’s exciting line-up.”
