Linda Troeller is a NYC art photographer with a new book Living Inside the Chelsea Hotel by Schiffer to be exhibited January 7th 2017 at Laurence Miller Gallery in NYC. Her exhibitions include the F-stop Festival, Leipzig, Teplice Photo Festival, Prague, University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Melkweg and at the Coda Museum, Netherlands.
She has been published by Aperture with her Pictures of the Year award winning book, Healing Waters, and by powerHouse Books for Spa Journeys. Her Scalo, Switzerland book, Erotic Lives of Women, with writer Marion Schneider, opened at Galerie Fotohof, Salzburg where she taught at the Summer Arts Academy. It was reviewed in the New York Times Review of Books, “as one of the gutsy books of the decade.”
She won the Women of Achievement Award from Douglass College and was an artist lecturer at Yale, PhotoNOLA and universities in Medellin, Colombia and Bournemouth, England.
She exhibited Self-Portrayal a collection of self-portraits, at Ververs Gallery, Amsterdam, and won an International Photo Award.
A documentary on her photography, Inside the Frame: Linda Troeller by Canadian filmmaker, Jeff McKay was released in April, 2015 and won Honorable Mention, N.J. International Film Festival, Rutgers, June 6, 2015.
She has a MFA from School of Art, and a MS Newhouse, Syracuse University and a BS from Reed School of Media, West Virginia University. She was an assistant at the Ansel Adams Workshops.
She has taught at SVA, Parsons, NY, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Indiana University, and Stockton University.

Residency Statement
Identity and Narrative Photography with Linda Troeller
In this workshop, we will explore personal ways of visual storytelling. You will develop your narrative photography by focusing on things you are truly devoted to, that are in-tune with your identity.
Through self-portraiture and portraits of colleagues you will ‘open up’ your sensitivity to enhance your vision. We will critique/discuss six jpgs from each persons’ recent project or valued images you will bring.
The second week’s theme is on ‘place’ in our rapidly changing contemporary life. What is intimate space? communal space? global space? At this point, each person commits to shoot their unique point of view. My assignments will accelerate techniques, and group photo walks will result in expressive, atmospheric images.
During the final week, we will go through the editing phase – the hardest area for many photographers to master. One-on-one meetings narrow shoots into compelling ’stories’.
Throughout the workshop, we will look at and discuss photo books you brought with you. We may also listen to music for inspiration.
Requirements to bring:
1. Digital camera you are acquainted with
2. Computer with photo editing software like iPhoto or similar
3. Items that refer to or can be used to alter identity (3 objects) such as wig, clothes, dolls, toys, amulet, hairbrush, historic/ vintage picture, body harness, …
4. Photo book that inspires you

Residency Fee: $900
Includes a $100 administration fee, weekday meals and housing; does not include artist materials, transportation, or weekend meals.
