ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Jane Manus is an internationally recognized abstract sculptor known for her striking minimalist aluminum forms. For this exhibition, Where Form Meets Function, she presents a collection of new work that includes functional furniture, 3D sculptures and sculptural wall forms.

Manus explains in her artist statement that the exploration of three dimensional space is central to her creations, commenting that “the interaction of positive and negative space, the appearance of shapes from multiple vantage points, and the play of light and shadows in the areas surrounding each piece, are equally important.”

Jane’s work is simultaneously simple and complex, with lively, geometric angles configured in unpredictable, often asymmetrical formations. In her own words, her work is “defined by minimal abstract form; bold color; highly finished, tactile surfaces; and architectural integrity. It is about harmony with the environment and balance with the human form.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jane Manus is one of the few female artists working in abstract geometric sculpture today. She received a BFA from Rollins College and the Art Institute of Boston. She had her first one person show in 1976 and since then, her work has been widely exhibited throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Her sculpture is also included in the public collections of the Lincoln Center/List Collection, New York; the Georgia Museum of Art, Athens, Georgia; the Sagamore Collection, Miami Beach, Florida; the Cornell Fine Arts Museum, Winter Park, Florida; Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida; the Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida; and the Flint Institute of Art, Flint, Michigan, among others.
